It all started when Dr. Kill and his family learned of the acute suffering and unnecessary deaths of children in Southern Cambodia. They decided to build a hospital in cooperation with the Pontifical Missionary Childhood Germany (Kindermissionswerk “Die Sternsinger”, Germany) to address this tragedy and to commemorate their daughter who had passed away in a tragic accident.
The Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital is a charity hospital that was built with the vision to improve the health situation of Cambodians, especially children and expectant mothers, regardless of their ability to pay. There has been great progress made towards achieving this goal since the hospital opened on the 1st of April 2012.
The hospital has been developing in phases, with the Outpatient department being the first to open. Since then, we have developed a range of services: our Maternity Ward opened in 2014 and our Surgery Department opened in January 2015. Please see the ‘Clinical Services‘ tab for more information.
Sustainability is important to us. Therefore, fees collected from paying patients are used to subsidize treatment of the poor! Our fees are based on the patient’s ability to pay as determined by a financial assessment. Poor families will be treated for free, while patients who can financially contribute to their medical care will be required to pay a fee.
