Laboratory

The aim of the laboratory is to provide accurate, reliable and timely patient test results to the clinicians, to aid them in their diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of the patient. The laboratory also runs the Blood Bank and provides a service for patient’s requiring a blood transfusion.

It is staffed by qualified Laboratory Technicians, who have Associate Degrees in Medical Laboratory Technology and 2 qualified nurses who act as phlebotomists and a secretary.  Currently the laboratory has an Australian Medical Scientist volunteer, who is setting up Quality Laboratory Management Systems and improving the diagnostic skills of the staff, with the aim of attaining ISO 15189 Laboratory Accreditation in the future.

The laboratory performs up to 10,000 tests per month in the disciplines of Clinical biochemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Serology and Microbiology.  The laboratory is continually adding new tests to provide a better service for our clinicians and patient outcomes.
