Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital


The Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital has state of the art facilities. The complex consists of 27 buildings on a 70,000 square meter plot of land.

The planning and architecture has been developed by the German architect Hans Haff. Through the intervention of King Norodom Sihanouk the Cambodian government provided the land free of charge to the Sonja Kill Foundation in order to build the hospital.


Out Patient Department (OPD) + Administration

  • Paediatric clinic with up to 11 flexible serviceable examination rooms
  • 5 examination rooms with individual functionalities in which special clinics can be situated, for instance for dental, ear-nose-throat medicine and ophthalmology.
  • Shock/trauma rooms which can be divided for up to 2 patients
  • Central sterilisation facilities and laboratory which corresponds to WHO standards
  • Radiological department offering x-ray and ultrasonic diagnostic
  • Pharmacy, library and telemedicine room
  • General administration offices and conference room

Patient rooms + houses for relatives of patients + ICU

  • 3 buildings which can be used separately, for instance as general wards, each with up to 18 beds
  • 2 apartment buildings for relatives of patients, which could be used as patients rooms if required
  • Intensive care unit (ICU) with up to 14 equipped beds

Operating Theater (OT)

  • 2 operating theatres with wake-up room and modern air handling unit


  • 2 individual delivery suites
  • Operational surgeries
  • Room for the care of and resuscitation of newborns, which in addition possibly has equipment for the artificial respiration of 1-3 newborns.
  • 2 gynaecological rooms/examination rooms
  • Maternity clinic with 32 beds which can partly be converted into delivery suites.

Staff Houses

  • 3 residential homes for local care staff with a total of 72 beds
  • 1 guest house for 12 people
  • 5 single family houses which can be used as staff houses (doctors, medical directors etc.)

Bore holes, Water treatment plant and water tanks; Nursery

  • Modern water treatment plant producing water with trinking quality
  • Three bore holes on the property supply the buildings with water.
  • Two water taks with a total of 80.000 liters storage capacity
  • Big gardening building, plant nursery and vegetable garden

Functional buildings
Power generation, laundry, storage, workshops, disposal

  • Redundant power supply - two fully automatic generators
  • Laundry
  • Technical workshops - fully furnished
  • Waste water treatment plant for modern waste management

On a plot area of 70.000 square meters the complex of the Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital for Children consists of 27 buildings.

Besides the buildings already constructed the plot of land offers various possibilities to extend the infrastructure in the case of special needs in individual medicine, social or administrative areas.
